GPCCI names first female president
The German—Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (GPCCI) announced the appointment of Marie Antoniette Mariano, BDO Unibank, Inc.FVP and head of the Europe Desk, as its new president.
The chamber also welcomed its new board of directors during its annual general meeting held on April 11.
Mariano takes over the reins from Mr. Stefan Schmitz, who steps into the role of SVP.
Other board of directors are Tristan Arwen Loveres as VP; Joseph Kumar Gross, treasurer; Tore Henriksen, Dr. Marian Norbert Majer, Dr. Ma. Ligaya Menguito, Peter Rankl, Tobias Rast, Dr. Christian Peter Scheld and Christopher Zimmer, directors.
PLDT, Smart sweep 12 Stevies
PLDT and its wireless unit Smart Communications Inc. emerged as the top Philippine telco among local companies recognized at the 11th annual Asia-Pacific Stevie Awards.
The group copped a total of 12 Stevies –three golds, six silvers, and three bronze awards, for innovation in the areas of content marketing, corporate social responsibility, customer service, diversity and inclusion, multi- and social media, product development, and special events.
The Stevie Awards are widely considered to be the world’s premier business awards, conferring recognition for achievement in programs such as The International Business Awards for 22 years.
PLDT and Smart bagged a gold Stevie® under the Innovative Achievement in Corporate Social Responsibility category for its #MSMEmpowered and #FarmSmart Communities program, which aims to bridge the digital gap for micro-, small and medium-sized enterprises and farmers by equipping them with digital literacy training, resources, and access to expanded markets, that will help them grow their businesses.
The group’s value brand, TNT, also received two gold Stevies® for the TNT SIM Registration program under the Cause-Related Videos category; and for the TNT Petmaloop Challenge, under the Innovation in Content Marketing / Branded Editorial category.
Maynilad offers desludging services
West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services Inc. is offering septic tank cleaning services to its residential and semi-business customers this April in select parts of Caloocan, Las Piñas, Makati, Malabon, Manila, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay, Quezon City, Valenzuela, and Cavite Province at no extra cost.
Maynilad’s sanitation program is one of the company’s efforts to lessen pollution loading into Metro Manila’s river systems.

Security Bank hosts Business Forum with SGV

Security Bank Corp. held its 2024 Business Forum in collaboration with SyCip Gorres Velayo (SGV) & Co. to assist clients in understanding the newest tax laws and rules, including the recent Ease of Paying Taxes (EOPT) Act, or Republic Act No. 11976, as well as learning about macroeconomic and foreign exchange trends. This seminar was the first of a series to inform and empower Security Bank stakeholders.
Hosted at the Security Bank Centre in Makati City, the seminar featured Jules Riego, SGV tax principal.
Signed into law on Jan. 5, 2024, the EOPT Act introduced reforms to ease tax compliance with improved efficiency, reduced administrative hurdles, and simplified tax withholding rules.
During the second half of the seminar, Security Bank economist Robert Dan Roces, also delved into global and regional macroeconomic updates and foreign exchange trends to help attendees optimize financial strategies, hedge against currency risks, and make informed investment decisions.
