Consumer group calls for vigilance in MRP of drugs

Laban Konsyumer Inc. (LKI) called for vigilance in ensuring the proper implementation of an executive order which sets the maximum retail prices (MRP) of 87 medicines or 133 formulations which took effect June 2.

Vic Dimagiba, LKI president, said in a statement the group will strictly monitor the full compliance of Executive Order 104 to ensure consumers have continued access to affordable and quality medicines.

In time with the implementation, the Department of Health mounted an information campaign o n the EO which mandates a 50-percent reduction on the prices of medicines for top burden diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, breast, colorectal and lung cancers, chronic kidney disease, and asthma/chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
