Compulsory vaccination divides business sector

Business is divided over a proposal to make vaccination compulsory to employees.

At the Laging Hand public briefing yesterday, presidential adviser on entrepreneurship and Go Negosyo founder Joey Concepcion expressed support to the mandatory vaccination if there is a low turnout of workers willing to get vaccine.

Concepcion said at least 70 percent of economic frontliners including those in tourism, retail and factory or manufacturing should be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity.

“It is their civic duty to get vaccinated,” he added.

Sergio Ortiz-Luis, president of the Employers Confederation of the Philippines, for his part, said making vaccination mandatory is not feasible especially that it would violate one’s Constitutional right.

“We cannot force workers to get the vaccine,” Ortiz-Luis said as he expressed hope confidence over the vaccine will further improve.

Concepcion’s Dose of Hope Campaign supported by the conglomerates close to 200 private companies expect 17 million doses of vaccines with the first batch of 1.3 million set to arrive in June.
