Supply chain management systems provider AEB sees the cold chain market in the Philippines growing 8 to 10 percent this year as demand for fresh and frozen food continues to increase.
Frank Kok, AEB general manager, in a briefing in Taguig City yesterday, said the Philippines continues to offer opportunities for cold chain warehouses where the shortage is 50,000 palette locations per year.
“The Philippines is still short in cold storage locations. We have seen the traditional players in the market grow but we also see new players entering this market as it it’s a business opportunity for them to build warehouses focused around cold storage,” Kok said.
Kok said in the past three years, electronic commerce for food in the Philippines has grown and spending on fast food and ready-to-prepare meals also increased.
According to Kok, an area of growth for cold chain is fast food restaurants which are in an expansion mode.
“There’s a 24 -hour economy here where people have to eat day and night. A lot of people like convenience… (they( grab a hamburger or grab fried chicken and eat and go back to work. All these products are coming from the frozen cold storage industries,” he said.
AEB, which has been operating in the Philippines since 2017, is set to hold today the Supply Chain Trilogy 2023 , the exclusive and premier technology conference for supply chain leaders and logistics professionals at the BGC Arts Center in Taguig City.
