Chevron donates Bokashi Pinoy compost kits

Chevron recently held a virtual workshop, Project Bokashi Compost, as part of their Annual Volunteer week.

The activity aimed to promote a sustainable lifestyle among its volunteer employees by teaching them to divert food wastes away from landfills and into urban areas where healthy soil can be produced to support local food production.

Chevron partnered with Bokashi Pinoy Composting, a social enterprise that aims to save the environment one bucket at a time through their homegrown Bokashi Ipa. Chevron donated Bokashi compost kits and grocery bags to 56 families in Tondo, Manila through St. John Bosco Parish and Bureau of Plant Industry’s Gulayan ni Juan. Gulayan ni Juan is a community effort that helps families within Tondo to sustain their livelihood by selling local produce. The donation made aims to help these families to grow more crops for less cost and earn more by using Bokashi Composting technology.

Holcim Ph expands building solutions

Holcim Philippines, Inc. continues to expand its product portfolio in line with its sustainability and innovation direction with the launch of a concrete block adhesive for building walls faster and with less material.

Holcim AAC Block Adhesive is used for laying all types of AAC (autoclaved aeratedconcrete), bricks and various types of cement blocks in the market. The adhesive is designed to durably bond blocks with optimum adhesive strength. It is made from cement, well-graded fillers, and specialized polymer.

Holcim AAC Block Adhesiveis part of the company’s product offering for building betterwalls. Holcim Philippines developed the new material in response to the growing use of AAC blocks for wall building because of the ease in installing and plastering compared with conventional hollow blocks.

With Holcim AAC Block Adhesive, builders may reduce mortar use for block laying by up to 75 percent.

Meralco joins UN Global Compact

The Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) became the latest Filipino organization to join the United Nations Global Compact last May 2021.

The UN Global Compact, launched in July 2000, encourages stakeholders worldwide to align their strategies and operations to the pact’s Ten Principles, anchored on sustainable and socially responsible policies on the improvement of universal human rights, labor rights and freedoms, environmental consciousness, and anti-corruption efforts.

Meralco joins a growing community of over 15,000 public and private entities from more than 170 countries that have signed the UN Global Compact, currently the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative, driven by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The SDGs are 17 interconnected aspirations that serve as a blueprint for a universally sustainable future by the year 2030.

Hassle-free online real estate billing

AQWIRE, a real estate settlements platform, has partnered with Xendit, the leading payment gateway for Southeast Asia to accept and process local payments via Direct Debit, Xendit’s online banking payments service.

The partnership will allow AQWIRE customers to use their Philippine bank accounts, such as UnionBank and BPI, for paying their real estate bills via Xendit’s platform.

Xendit will expand partnerships with other local banks in the coming months for wider coverage.

Xendit’s Direct Debit product is unique in the market because it allows customers to make payments in real time. The Xendit solution provides a seamless experience – users need not hop off AQWIRE’s website/app, open their banking website, or provide a screenshot of their bank transfer to complete the payment.

SB Peso Bond Fund best managed

The CFA Society Philippines has awarded Security Bank Trust and Asset Management Group’s SB Peso Bond Fund as the Best Managed Fund for the Long-term Peso Bond Fund Category during the CFA Society Philippines’ 2021 Best Managed Fund Awards.

The SB Peso Bond Fund was recognized for being able to deliver the highest risk-adjusted returns compared to its peers. The focus of the awards is to review the performance and consistency of funds based on each financial institution’s submission of Investment information and fact sheets.

The CFAP Fund of the year Committee used the Sortino ratio of each fund based on its five-year and three-year track record.

Global insurance firm strengthens presence in PH

Global advisory and brokerage firm, Willis Towers Watson (WTW) expands its partnership with premier office building developer, W Group, for renewal of the lease with the latter’s prime office building, W CityCenter.

WTW moved its main operations to W CityCenter–located in the fastest-growing business district in the metro, Bonifacio Global City (BGC)–when the company expanded its business operations in the Philippines. WTW now houses over 1,400 of its employees working for its business process outsourcing,brokering, and consultancy operations.

BGC’s prime location, together with W CityCenter’s excellent building facilities and exceptional management has been a major factor in WTW’s decision to renew its contract with W Group despite the ongoing pandemic.

Good eating habits

Herbalife Nutrition recently launched its Nutrition for Zero Hunger Star Program in the Philippines, which aims to educate children about how to build good eating habits and a healthy, active lifestyle.

The program is part of the company’s Nutrition for Zero Hunger initiative, which aims to help combat global challenges such as hunger, malnutrition and food insecurity. One of its key commitments is nutrition education, and it develops and provides tools to empower people to make healthy choices.

“Through working with our partner nonprofit organizations such as the Tuloy Foundation and SOS Children’s Villages Philippines, we can help make a difference by providing children in need with nutrition resources and knowledge to empower them to adopt healthy eating habits and daily activity at an early age,” said Sridhar Rajagopalan, senior director at Herbalife Nutrition Philippines

More than 140 kids from Tuloy Foundation and SOS Children’s Villages Philippines received the Nutrition for Zero Hunger Star Program booklet, which serves as their guide to building good eating habits and a healthy, active lifestyle.

TCS Sustainathon launches in PH

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading global IT services, consulting and business solutions organization, is bringing the TCS Sustainathon to the Philippines this month. With the theme of “Reimagining Education,” the Sustainathon 2021 hopes to enable senior high school and college students to join discussions on pressing issues surrounding education today and hopefully develop ideas on how to have an “Inclusive Education for all in 2030.

TCS Sustainathon was initially launched in Singapore in 2020 with the theme of Combating Food Waste. It served as a platform for young minds to collaborate with private companies, nonprofit organizations and government agencies to co-create solutions for real world sustainability issues using digital technologies. Ninety-eight students from more than 15 educational institutions in Singapore developed plans on fighting food waste, which has been one of the major challenges faced by many countries.

This year, TCS expands its initiative to the Philippines and Malaysia to promote inclusivity in education as these countries implement blended and flexible learning.

Shopee supports brands

Brands continue to redouble their marketing efforts by expanding their presence across all channels, including on Shopee.
