Cavitex Infrastructure Corp. (CIC) is set to complete the second phase of the Manila-Cavite expressway (Cavitex) enhancement project by second quarter this year.

The enhancement will help ease travel to and from Parañaque, Las Piñas and Cavite.

The second phase involves the construction of additional bridge lanes which will widen the Parañaque, Wawa and Las Piñas bridges from three lanes to four lanes.

“Upon completion of the second phase of this project by Q2 (second quarter) of 2020, we will be able to make more room for motorists plying Cavitex, especially now that our traffic volume has increased by 9 percent since January 2019. Our traffic management plans are in place, we will be deploying marshals in areas under construction,” Bobby Bontia, CIC president and general manager, said in a statement.

In this phase of construction, girders will be lifted and installed in the northbound and southbound portions of the bridges. During girder launching, a 30-minute stop-and-go scheme will be implemented during off-peak hours.

The first activity, which covers the southbound portion of Las Piñas Bridge, is scheduled on February 24, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and February 25, 12:01 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. CIC said counterflow scheme for Class 1 vehicles will also be implemented to aid the possible congestion that might be experienced during these times.

“We thank our motorists for their continued understanding and cooperation. We are aware that this project will be a temporary inconvenience. Rest assured when the works are over and the project is completed, they will surely feel the ease of passage in Cavitex. Our motorists are number one, we listen to them, their suggestions and this project is a long-term solution to their feedback on arresting traffic congestion,” Bontia said.

The first phase of the Cavitex enhancement project was opened to motorists in December 2018. It included the southbound flyover and left turning facility towards Pacific Drive leading to D. Macapagal Avenue.

With its opening, the motorists immediately felt the ease in travelling to and from Parañaque, Las Piñas and Cavite. Investment for the full Cavitex enhancement is P1.1 billion.

To maximize the benefits of the road enhancements, Cavitex motorists are encouraged to switch to the electronic toll collection system such as the Easytrip RFID to ensure a faster pass through at the toll plazas.
