The provincial government of Cavite has lifted the ban on the sale and distribution of processed pork products.
The move was made after consultations with officials of the Department of Agriculture, Department of Interior and Local Government and the Department of Trade and Industry.
Cavite is the first province to break away from a group of 65 provincial governors which implemented the ban.
Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla issued Executive Order 34 dated Oct. 24, 2019 follows the issuance of a memorandum circular on Oct. 16, 2019 by the Department of Interior and Local Government setting the guidelines on the movement of pork and pork products,
“Canned goods and processed pork products may be transported as long as the same is authorized by the Food and Drug Administration and other concerned government agencies,”
In the same order, Remulla said all “hotels, restaurants, eateries, cafeterias, canteens, fast food chains and other food establishments shall be prohibited from selling or giving their leftovers or spoiled food to hog raisers.”
The order also prohibits the feeding of swill or food wastes to pigs in the province.
The province still prohibits the transport of live pigs, fresh or frozen pork, unless cleared by Bureau of Animal Industry or the National Meat Inspection Service.
