Cargill Philippines, the subsidiary of the global food and agribusiness firm, is keen on investing as much as $2.6 million (P146.14 million) in the country to support existing and new projects.
The company said in a statement the amount will be spent for projects that advance farmer livelihood and the agriculture industry as well as drive environmental impact. One of these investments is the Adopt-a-River for Tigiro River project which aims to rehabilitate the river that runs beside its processing plant in Batangas.
The amount will also be spent for Cargill’s long-term efforts to support smallholder corn and coconut farmers through training on sustainable agricultural practices, improved productivity and market access to increase their income.
These initiatives will benefit an additional 7,000 corn farming families and 10 cooperatives in Isabela and Cagayan. Another project will train an additional 300 to 400 coconut farmers in Bohol.
Sonny Catacutan, Cargill Philippines country president, said in a statement the company remains bullish about growing its businesses while giving back to communities in the country.
“Cargill envisions a future marked by shared success with Filipino farmers, as well as our employees, customers, industry and government partners. By coming together, we can scale our impact in transforming the local agriculture sector and helping build vibrant and resilient communities that thrive,” Catacutan said. -Jed Macapagal
