The first section of the Cavite-Laguna expressway (Calax) from Mamplasan toll barrier to Sta. Rosa City in Laguna is set to start full operation today, in time for the holiday rush, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

Mark Villar, DPWH secretary, who led the final inspection of the 10-kilometer section of Calax’s Laguna segment over the weekend, told reporters the section will operate 24/7 starting today which is expected to benefit about 10,000 motorists daily.

The first phase of the Laguna segment started partial operation last October as it was opened from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, benefitting thousands of commuters who are able to bypass the traffic choked Mamplasan to Sta. Rosa road.

Toll fee is free until February 2020, but it will later impose between P4.50 to P5 per km. or P45 to P50 for the end to end stretch, Villar said.

The rest of the 45-km. Calax is currently under construction. The complete 2×2 lane expressway will provide a high speed alternate route between Manila-Cavite expressway in Kawit, Cavite to the South Luzon expressway at Mamplasan Interchange in Biñan, Laguna.
Calax will have eight interchanges: Kawit, Open Canal, Governor’s Drive, Silang, Silang East, Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay, Laguna Blvd. and Laguna Technopark.
