The Philippine Baking Group (PhilBaking) has agreed not to increase prices of Pinoy Tasty and Pinoy Pandesal to mitigate the inflationary pressure brought about by the pandemic disruption.
But PhilBaking members’ private brands will increase marginally, about 3 to 5 percent, to partially cover the increases in basic ingredients like flour, sugar, vegetable oil and milk which comes to about 5 to 10 percent.
The group said Pinoy Tasty will stay at P21.50 per loaf while Pinoy Pandesal will remain at P35 per 10-piece pack.
Members are absorbing the increased cost while still able to gain marginal profit.
For now, PhilBaking said they can hold on up to December 30.
Flour prices have gone up by an average of P200 to P955 to P980 per bag.
By rule of thumb, every P50 increase should translate to a P1-increase in the price of loaf. – Irma Isip
