The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has recorded its highest monthly collection in history as it raked in P70.73 billion last month.
The BOC said in a statement it exceeded its P57.69 billion March 2022 revenue target by P13.037 billion or 22.6 percent.
It also significantly surpassed the P44.6 billion collected in the same month a year ago by 58.6 percent.
“The BOC’s positive revenue collection performance is attributed to the improving volume of importation in the country, the improved valuation and the intensified collective efforts of all the collection districts,” the agency said in a statement yesterday.
Based on BOC’s preliminary report, 14 of the 17 collection districts hit their respective targets for the month.
Specifically, these are the ports of San Fernando, Manila, Batangas, Iloilo, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, Davao, Subic, Clark, Aparri and Limay, and the Manila International Container Port and Ninoy Aquino International Airport.
The BOC has so far collected P188.51 billion this year, reflecting 27.8 percent of the 2022 collection target of P679.226 billion. – Angela Celis
