The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has again surpassed its monthly revenue goal as it exceeded its target in August by 34.1 percent, the agency said in a statement yesterday.
The government’s second biggest revenue-generating agency said based on preliminary reports, it generated P78.9 billion in August, P20 billion more than its target collection of P58.8 billion for the month.
The said amount includes P77.9 billion from all collection districts of the bureau, P248.2 million from the Post Clearance Audit Group and P677.4 million from the Tax Expenditure Fund.
The amount collected by the BOC in August was also 47.75 percent higher than the P53.4 billion raked in in the same month a year ago.
The BOC said all 17 ports surpassed their targets and cumulatively achieved a P15.8 billion or 25 percent surplus.
Meanwhile, from January to August 2022, the BOC garnered a total revenue of P559.2 billion.
This is P146.9 billion or 35.6 percent higher than the P412.3 billion actual collection from the same timeline in 2021.
The BOC attributed its performance to its intensified collection efforts; streamlined, digitized and modernized systems; and the improving economy resulting in higher volume of imports. – Angela Celis
