The Bureau of Customs (BOC) Sub-Port of Mindanao Container Terminal (MCT) has opened a new facility that is seen to support regional revenue generation and the provision of better services to stakeholders.
In a statement over the weekend, the BOC said its new building at the Phividec Industrial Estate in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, will house essential BOC frontline offices in MCT, including the customer care center, sub-port collector’s office, assessment division, operations division, export division, piers and inspection division and other key departments.
In his speech, Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio acknowledged the significant contribution of the Sub-Port of MCT, which accounts for more than 51 percent of the overall revenue collection of Collection District X.
The Phivedic Industrial Authority also reaffirmed its active partnership with the BOC through the donation of the 5,000 square meters of lot within the Phividec Industrial Estate through a usufruct agreement.
With Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental as gateways, the BOC said it has reinforced its position to cater to the growing economy of Northern Mindanao.
According to the government’s latest cash operations report, the BOC generated total revenues of P433.4 billion in January to June of this year.
This figure surpassed the P420.7 billion program for the six-month period by 3.04 percent, which was attributed to the agency’s anti-smuggling operations.
The bureau’s year-to-date performance also improved by 9.26 percent versus the P396.7 billion generated in the same period a year ago. – Angela Celis
