The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has exceeded its August collection target by 32.53 percent, the agency said yesterday.
The BOC said in a statement that amid the challenging times, the agency was able to post positive monthly collections for the third month since June 2020.
For the month of August, the BOC collected P44.631 billion against its goal of P33.675 billion.
Based on the preliminary report from the BOC-financial service, nine of the 17 collection districts exceeded their target for the month.
These are the ports of Tacloban, Zamboanga, Aparri, Limay, Clark, Cebu, Subic, Cagayan De Oro and Davao.
“The BOC’s positive revenue collection performance is attributed to the improved valuation and intensified collection efforts of all the ports,” the agency said.
“Despite this performance, the bureau maintained its border security measures against undervaluation, misdeclaration and other forms of technical smuggling and collect lawful revenues,” it added.
Rey Leonardo Guerrero, customs commissioner, commended the collective effort of the district collectors and BOC personnel, who, despite the risk to their health and safety, showed their commitment and dedication to service.
