The Bureau of Customs (BOC) yesterday reported it has surpassed its collection goal for the month of April by 19.6 percent or P10.77 billion.
In a statement yesterday, the BOC said it collected a total of P65.7 billion against its P54.9 billion April 2022 target collection.
Based on the BOC’s preliminary report, 14 of the 17 collection districts hit their respective targets.
These are the Ports of San Fernando, Port of Manila, Batangas, Legaspi, Iloilo, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, Davao, Subic, Clark, Aparri and Limay and the Manila International Container Port.
Last March, the bureau recorded its highest monthly revenue collection in history with P70B collection for the period.
The BOC said its collection performance is attributed to the improved valuation, intensified enforcement against illegal importations and the improved compliance by traders to customs laws.
The BOC is the 2nd largest revenue-generating government agency next to the Bureau of Internal Revenue.
For the past 2 years, the BOC was able to surpass its annual target collection by 6.23 percent and +4.35 percent, respectively despite the ongoing global health crisis. – Angela Celis
