The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has filed tax deficiency cases amounting to a combined P796.95 million against two major illegal cigarette operators, the bureau said on Monday.
The BIR formally filed criminal cases before the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) on July 1, following a Department of Justice ruling in favor of the BIR’s complaint.
The two cigarette operations are located in Valenzuela City and San Rafael, Bulacan.
“We assure the public that all BIR operations against illicit trade of cigarettes and vape will result in the filing of criminal cases against those involved,” Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr. was quoted as saying in a BIR statement.
He warned, “we will raid your warehouses. We will file criminal cases. You will be arrested.”
