The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) is teaming up with South Korea’s National Agency for Administrative City Construction (NAACC) in bringing in 23 public and private entities – experts in construction and engineering and information technology and software solutions.

As a consortium, “Team Korea” will showcase its expertise in urban development, BCDA said in a statement yesterday.

NAACC led by Administrator Kim Hyeong Ryeol on January 23 announced the formation of “Team Korea to the Philippines.”

BCDA said” Team Korea” will connect BCDA with Korean firms interested in entering the Philippine market, providing opportunities for project bids and collaborative ventures.

This followed the 2024 signing of a memorandum of understanding between NAACC and BCDA for the promotion of collaboration on urban development initiatives.

The BCDA, which oversees major urban development projects like New Clark City, said it is keen on attracting Korean companies to participate in building urban infrastructure and developing smart cities.

BCDA said this is not limited to New Clark City and other properties under it.

BCDA said NAACC will leverage on its expertise in developing the Administrative City Sejong by building international networks that will support Korean companies entering the Philippine urban development market.

“By sharing the successful experience and technology accumulated through the construction of Korea’s Administrative City Sejong, we aim to actively support Korean companies in their global ventures, particularly in the rapidly developing Philippine market,” said Kim as quoted by the BCDA statement.

BCDA said NAACC plans to hold regular meetings with BCDA and participating companies to explore detailed collaborative projects and secure tangible outcomes, including contract awards and joint urban development initiatives.

“It will be a great foundation for other Korean and international investment,” Team Korea said in an email message.

Team Korea said it will facilitate private sector participation in international projects through intergovernmental collaboration; and will support information sharing, networking, project discovery, market research, and strategy development for companies interested in participating in initiatives related to BCDA, as a whole.

Areas of cooperation may include, but are not limited to, urban planning, urban mobility, urban beautification, smart city concepts, and more.

The main objective, Team Korea said, is to assist Korean companies (private sector) which are interested in entering the Philippine market or expanding their operations within the country.
