Bargaining hunting continues

SHARE prices ended up Thursday as investors took to continued bargain hunting following recent record drops in the market.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) was up 373.82 points to 5,401.58, a 7.44 percent hike. This is the PSEi’s biggest percentage gain in a day, the PSE said.

The broader all shares index was up 185.69 points to 3,250.82, a 6.06 percent hike.

Gainers edged losers 151 to 48 with 26 stocks unchanged. Trading turnover reached P7.67 billion.

The peso closed at 51.07 to the dollar, up from 51.14 on Wednesday.

The currency opened at 50.98, hit a high of 50.90 and a low of 51.15. Trading turnover reached $420.1 million.

Most actively traded SM Prime Holdings Inc. was up P4 to P31. SM Investments Corp. was up P45 to P845. Ayala Land Inc. was up P1.60 to P32.30. BDO Unibank Inc. was up P15.70 to P115.70. Ayala Corp. was up P22 to P482. Metropolitan Bank and Turst Co. was up P0.20 to P36.10. Universal Robina Corp. was up P0.60 to P99. PLDT Inc. was up P95 to P1,066. Jollibee Foods Corp. was up P3.75 to P102.20.
