Ateneo opens isolation facility

Ateneo de Manila University, the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), and the Quezon City local government jointly opened an isolation facility for COVID-19 patients inside the Ateneo’s campus in Quezon City.

The prefabricated complex of the Ateneo Junior High School has been designated as the location of the isolation center. Only patients who are asymptomatic or those exhibiting mild symptoms that can’t safely isolate in their home, and has been referred by the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (QCESU) will be lodged in the said isolation facility to minimize transmission of the disease among family members.

The University constructed a security enclosure around the complex to ensure the health and safety of everyone and separate the isolation facility from the entire campus. All equipment and furniture that were in the prefabricated complex were removed before the space was turned over to the PRC. The Red Cross furnished the space with the necessary equipment and facilities to make it suitable for patients of COVID-19.

SM hosts Liter of Light’s largest solar tribute to Santo Niño de Cebu

Hand-built solar lights illuminated the sky as Liter of Light, a Filipino-born global grassroots solar lighting movement, unveiled the largest solar tribute to Santo Niño de Cebu to commemorate 500 Years of Christianity in the Philippines at SM Seaside City Cebu.

“SM Seaside City Cebu is honored to be a partner of Liter of Light Organization in its effort to build the largest solar tribute to the Santo Niño de Cebu to commemorate the 500 Years of Christianity (500 YOC). The theme of the 500 YOC is “Gifted to Give” and it is truly appropriate that the Liter of Light has gifted and given more than 350,000 lights in 15 countries all over the world,”said Marissa N. Fernan, vice president, SM Prime Holdings Inc.

The first of its kind in the province, the solar lights installation was built by thousands who joined the Liter of Light’s “Light it Forward” Challenge. The movement seeks to connect people and encourage them to build solar lights for communities without electricity.

“This would not be possible without SM Seaside City Cebu who has given us a wonderful area to be able to build this most sacred image in Cebu,” says Illac Diaz, Liter of Light’s founder and executive director.

The lighted Santo Niño de Cebu image will be followed by a lighted image of Lapu-Lapu on April 29.

The installation is being done in partnership with Local Government of Cebu City, Philippines AirAsia, Rotary Club of Makati Business District, SM Seaside City Cebu, SM Cares, Dexcom Philippines, Inc. and Lalamove. Collaborating institutions include Rotary Club District 3860, JCI Cebu Sinulog and Big Seed PR and Events.

GT Foundation completes 2021 Bags of Blessing for 18k families

From its kick-off last February 11 to celebrate Chinese New Year, GT Foundation, Inc. (GTFI), together with Metrobank Foundation, Inc. (MBFI), successfully completed this year’s Bags of Blessing (BOB) through a series of distribution across 33 sites nationwide, benefiting a total of 18,000 families who exchanged their issued vouchers for goods at select supermarkets.

These beneficiaries were carefully chosen in partnership with the National Secretariat for Social Action (NASSA)/Caritas Philippines to contribute to the national goal to curb hunger and alleviate the impact of the pandemic on people’s lives. To date, BOB has assisted almost 100,000 families or approximately 500,000 individuals in 182 sites nationwide.

Some teachers, police officers, and soldiers, in partnership with the Department Education, Philippine National Police, and Armed Forces of the Philippines, also received goods as a fitting tribute to recognize their efforts during the crisis.

The network of Metrobank branches from the identified sites made the distribution possible with branch managers acting as action officers together with NASSA/Caritas Philippines local coordinators.

The distribution sites this year were: Manila; San Juan; Caloocan; Quezon City; Parañaque; Navotas; Valenzuela; Makati; Taguig; Malabon; Pasay; Pasig; Mandaluyong; Muntinlupa; Las Piñas; Marikina; Pateros in NCR including Baguio City; Antipolo City; Balanga City, Bataan; San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan; Batangas City; the cities of Bacoor, General Trias, and Imus in Cavite; the cities of Biñan, San Pedro, Santa Rosa in Laguna; Iloilo City; Cebu City; Mandaue City; Lapu-Lapu City; and Davao City

The Bags of Blessing is the brainchild of the late Metrobank Group founder and chairman Dr. George Ty Siao Kian.

The program received an Award of Excellence in the recent 18th Philippine Quill Awards by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines and a Silver Anvil in the 56th Anvil Awards by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines.
