Approval of P794B energy projects hastened

The Department of Energy (DOE) has issued Certificates of Energy Project of National Significance (CEPNS) to 149 energy projects since 2018 with total estimated investments of P794.52 billion.

The National Power Corp. has the most number of certificates issued at 67; the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines, 48; and the PNOC Exploration Corp., three.

The DOE said it received 399 applications for CEPNS but denied 139, returned 76 and is still evaluating 35.

From the 149, most were for diesel power plants at 58 followed by transmission projects, 37 and substation related developments, 20.

The remaining issuances are for projects involving geothermal, wind, coal, oil and gas exploration, hydro, natural gas, biogas, waste-to-energy, solar, bunker, LNG terminal and battery storage.

Projects with CEPNS are processed within 30 days and are deemed approved if no action is made in five days after the lapse of the 30 working days.
