The Department of Transportation (DOTr) said the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Corp. has completed all repairs on the Marilao Interchange Bridge in just one week on March 26, ahead of the original two-week schedule.

In a statement on Wednesday, DOTr said all four lanes under the damaged Marilao Interchange Bridge have been opened to motorists, allowing close to normal travel times for commuters and motorists traversing the North Luzon Expressway.

NLEX, in a separate statement, also announced the opening of the four lanes of the Marilao northbound starting at 1 am on March 26, ahead of the projected schedule.

The company said while all lanes are now passable, supporting steel poles will remain in place to facilitate the concrete curing of the bridge.

Traffic flow in Marilao northbound will improve and normalize in the next few days, it said.

On March 19, the Marilao Bridge sustained damage from a truck violating regulations, causing traffic flow changes to facilitate ongoing repairs and ensure motorists’ safety.

Originally scheduled for completion in two weeks, NLEX accelerated the repairs, with teams working around the clock and with the expedited delivery of the fabricated steel needed for the bridge.

“We thank the motoring public for their utmost understanding and patience while repairs were ongoing. Rest assured that NLEX continues to intensify safety and traffic measures in key areas of the expressway to ensure the safety and convenience of our valued customers,” the company said.
