Local airline operators Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific and AirAsia Philippines are expected to offer cheaper airfare by next month on lower fuel surcharge.
In an advisory, Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) executive director Carmelo Arcilla said fuel surcharge on domestic and international flights for both passenger and cargo services will be at level 9 for September 1 to 30. This is lower compared to August when the fuel surcharge was at level 12.
The adjustment in fuel surcharge matrix level for September was based on the lower jet fuel prices that averaged P46.73 per liter from July 10 to August 9. This is lower than the P54.73 per liter prices from June 10 to July 9 which is the basis for the August fuel surcharge.
“We welcome this positive development and we will carry out the corresponding adjustments in our fuel surcharges. The new fuel surcharge rate will be applicable to tickets that will be purchased in September,” said Cielo Villaluna, PAL spokesperson.
AirAsia Philippines said the lower fuel surcharge will reflect on ticket prices accordingly.
“This will benefit many of our guests who are now planning their travels in time for the BER months.” said Steve Dailisan, AirAsia Philippines head of communications and public affairs
Xander Lao, Cebu Pacific chief commercial officer, said the lower fuel surcharge should help make fares more affordable and stimulate air travel.
CAB said in its advisory airlines wishing to impose or collect fuel surcharge for the same period must file its application with this office on or before the effectivity period, with fuel surcharge rates not exceeding the above-stated level.
At level 9, fuel surcharge for domestic flights will range from P287 to P839 per passenger, one way, which is lower than this month’s fuel surcharge range of P389 to P1,137 per passenger, per way.
For international flights, fuel surcharge will be at from P947.39 to P7,044.27 by September as compared in August this year which ranges from P1,284.40 to P9,550.13 per passenger, per way.
For cargo services, fuel surcharge for domestic will range from P1.47 to P4.31 per kilogram, one way.
For international cargo services, the surcharge will be at P4.87 to P36.21 per kg, one way.
This is lower compared this August’s fuel surcharge which ranges from P2 to P5.85 for domestic and P6.60 to P49.09 for international.
