AboitizPower Corp.’s power distribution arm Davao Light and Power Co. expressed willingness to assist Northern Davao Electric Cooperative Inc. (Nordeco) in improving its power distribution services in Davao del Norte but said this will need approval from Congress.
Davao Light holds the franchise to distribute power Davao City, Panabo City and the municipalities of Carmen, Dujali and Sto. Tomas in Davao del Norte.
Anton Perdices, AboitizPower Distribution Utilities chief operating officer, told reporters on the sidelines of the Enlit Asia 2024 energy conference in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last week, said consumers have approached the Aboitiz Group if it can also improve services in other parts of Davao which continue to experience power interruptions and pay higher rates.
Aside from congressional approval, Perdices said the company has a lot to consider in taking over the supply of power in Northern Davao.
“Asset purchase alone (will cost) somewhere between P700 million (and) a billion (pesos). We would still need to do a technical due diligence to (determine how) to raise the standards to our level. Functionality of distribution transformers, quality of the lines, meters, we still have to look at those),” Perdices said.
Meanwhile, Perdices said AboitizPower is set to further improve features of its MobileAp mobile application for better customer experience in areas where it operates: Cotabato, Davao and Manila.
The app contains information on customer’s consumption and payment and provides notifications on outages.
Perdices said AboitizPower envisions the mobile app to provide real-time power consumption and directly seek help from line crews during power line issues and monitor their location through a virtual map.
The company has about 1 million customers with around 65 to 70 percent utilizing the app.
