Nearly 90,000 private sector employees were displaced during the reimposition of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in Metro Manila and other parts of the country, according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
In a virtual press briefing, Dominique Tutay, DOLE assistant secretary, said the agency recorded close to 90,000 workers that were displaced during the strict two-week lockdown reimposed earlier in the month.
“We have about 3,000 establishments which reported to be affected by the quarantine level,” saidTutay. “These establishments involve about close to 90,000 workers.”
The number of displaced workers include those that were retrenched, permanently displaced, under flexible working arrangements, and temporarily displaced, she added.
She, however, said the number of displaced workers only count those in the formal employment sector.
“We don’t include in the number yet those from the informal sector workers and the repatriated OFWs (overseas Filipino workers), who are joining the ranks of the unemployed,” said Tutay.
To recall, Metro Manila was placed under ECQ from August 6 to 20.
