The Department of Energy (DOE) said six companies are actively pursuing the development of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in the country.

Energy Assistant Secretary Leonido Pulido III told a Senate hearing yesterday these include First Gen Corp and its partner Tokyo Gas; Excelerate Energy; Batangas Clean Energy led by the Lucio Tan Group; Vires Energy; AG&P; and Shell Energy Philippines, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell.

Pulido said the Tanglawan project in Batangas being led by the consortium of Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Inc., CNOOC Gas and Power Group Co. Ltd. and the Philippine National Oil Co. will no longer be pursued due to commercial issues.

He said the DOE was “constrained to cancel” the Tanglawan project’s notice to proceed as its proponent “withdrew their plans as they were not able to reach financial close and had a few difficulties regarding their project proposal.”
