Local airline operators have cancelled 46 flights between Manila and Hong Kong in compliance with the Hong Kong government’s two-week travel ban to control the spread of the coronavirus.
The Hong Kong government has temporarily prohibited the entry of passengers from eight countries including the Philippines from January 8 to 21.
With this, Cebu Pacific Inc. (CEB), which operates twice daily flights from Manila to Hong Kong, has cancelled 18 flights from January 8 to 21, in addition to 16 cancelled flights from December 30, 2021, to January 7, 2022.
CEB resumed its operation to Hong Kong last September.
The airline is giving affected passengers three options: to rebook for travel within 60 days, store value in a travel fund valid for two years and refund the ticket cost.
Philippine Airlines Inc. (PAL), which operates four times weekly to Hong Kong, has cancelled a total of 10 flights from January 6 to 21.
However, PAL said its PR 301 Hong Kong-Manila flights continue to operate every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday as scheduled.
PAL planes will fly into Hong Kong as all cargo flights then the return journey to Manila via PR 301 will carry passengers.
“We revert to normal Manila-Hong Kong schedules starting 12:01 AM on January 22, 2022,” PAL said.
The flag carrier said affected passengers may convert the ticket to travel credits valid for one year, rebook tickets within 60 days or refund the ticket without penalties.
Meanwhile, AirAsia Philippines. which operates two flights every month to Hong Kong, said its “published schedules will continue except for our bi-weekly Manila to Hong Kong flights which were suspended due to Hong Kong government restrictions.” Myla Iglesias
