More than 40 million Filipinos have completed their Step 2 registration with the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys), according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

As of October 31, 40.26 million individuals have fulfilled the second step of the registration, which involves verifying the registrant’s demographic information and capturing their biometric data, such as fingerprints, iris scans and front-facing photographs, the PSA said in a statement yesterday.

This brings the PSA closer to the goal of registering at least 50 million Filipinos by the end of 2021.

The PSA also reported that 3.1 million PhilID cards have been successfully delivered to registrants nationwide through the Philippine Postal Corp. (PHLPost).

The PSA partnered with the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas for card production and personalization, while PHLPost manages the door-to-door delivery of the PhilID cards.

The PSA has also partnered with the Land Bank of the Philippines (LandBank) to assist Filipinos traditionally excluded from the banking system to open their first transactional accounts.

As of October 21, around 5.9 million registrants have been onboarded through the LandBank’s co-location with the PSA in designated PhilSys Registration Centers across the country, the PSA said. – Angela Celis
