4-month tourism receipts jump 782% to P168B

Tourist arrivals breached the 2 million mark as of May 12, surpassing the target of 1.7 million for the year.

The Department of Tourism (DOT) reported visitor  receipts surged 782 percent to P168.52 billion in the first four months of the year from P19 billion in the same period last year.

That is equivalent to 80 percent of total revenues in 2022.

As of May 12, visitors from South Korea accounted for almost a quarter of the total number of visitors with 487, 502 (24.35 percent) followed by those from the United States at 352, 894 (17.62 percent);  Australia with 102, 494 (5.12 percent);  Canada with 98, 593 (4.92 percent); Japan with 97, 329 (4.86 percent) to complete the top 5 source markets.

Rounding out the top 10 are China (75,043), Taiwan (62,654), United Kingdom (62,291), Singapore (53,359), and Malaysia  (36,789).
