Three major foreign logistics companies are eyeing to make Clark International Airport a hub of their operations in Asia, entailing billions of dollars of investments, according to Joshua Bingcang, president and chief executive officer of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA).
In a press briefing, Bingcang said an official announcement will be made in March by the BCDA and the three companies initially occupying 20 hectares within a property previously occupied by the Philippine Air Force.
He said the 25-year lease by the companies will earn revenues of up to P1 billion a year for the government. This also includes fees for the use of the apron, parking as well as landing and takeoff.
Bingcang said BCDA will invest P2.5 billion, representing land and capex in the project which entails the expansion the airside of Clark International Airport.
The projects will generate to 4,000 jobs.
According to Bingcang, BCDA will improve the radar system, control tower, equipment and lighting system to prepare the area for the logistics companies.
The three companies will build hangars as well as sorting and warehousing facilities to serve customers within the region.
At present, logistics giants Federal Express and UPS are operating from Clark.
