Century Pacific Food Inc. and RFM Corp. join the list of the best companies in Asia with sales under a billion dollars for 2021.
A total of 200 companies were compiled by Forbes to reflect how resilient they were against the backdrop of the 2020 pandemic.
Century Pacific — with sales of $974 million, a profit of $78 million and market value of $1.79 billion — and RFM Corp. — with sales of $317 million, a profit of $26 million and market value of $301 million — made it to the unranked list that covers 20,000 public traded companies in the Asia-Pacific with revenue of above $10 million but below $1 billion.
Century Pacific tops the list in terms of revenues.
The list uses full-year annual results based on the latest publicly available figures as of August 12, 2021.
The list is meant to identify companies with long-term sustainable performance across a variety of metrics, Forbes said.
It added that the companies were selected based on a composite score that incorporated their overall track record in measures such as debt, sales and earnings-per-share growth over both the most recent fiscal one- and three-year periods, and the strongest one- and five-year average returns on equity.
“Aside from quantitative criteria, qualitative screens were used as well, such as excluding companies with serious governance issues, questionable accounting, environmental concerns, management issues or legal troubles. State-controlled and subsidiaries of larger companies were also excluded. The criteria also ensured a geographic diversity of companies from across the region,” it said.
“Despite the global spread of Covid-19, this year’s annual Best Under A Billion list highlights the resilience of 200 publicly listed small and midsized companies in the Asia-Pacific region with sales under $1 billion.
