Malacañang has proclaimed two new new economic zones, one in Batangas Province and the other in Bacolod City the development of which entails a combined cost of P1.64 billion.

Twenty more ecozones are pending for presidential proclamation as of April 19: 11 information technology (IT) centers, 8 manufacturing, and one agro-industrial ecozone.
Proclamation No. 402 dated April 19 designated several parcels of land in Barangays Santiago, Luta Sur, and Bagong Pook in Malvar as expansion areas of Lima Technology Center — Special Economic Zone owned by the Aboitiz Group.
The expansion is expected to bring P864.22 million of investments.
In Proclamation No. 200 dated April 14, Robinsons Cyberpark Bacolod was proclaimed a new IT park ecozone. Located on Lacson street in Banago, the project costs P777.35 million.
Tereso Panga, PEZA director-general, said the agency is on track in its goal of establishing at least 30 ecozones every year. – Irma Isip
