Mobility leader Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP) is accelerating its plant carbon neutrality target while conglomerate Aboitiz Group is expanding the deployment of electric vehicles (EV) in Cebu.

TMP announced the recent expansion of its solar facility that powers its manufacturing plant and head office in Santa Rosa, Laguna.

TMP added an extra 0.46 megawatts (MW) from the current 1 MW facility, bringing the company further to the minimum renewable energy (RE) ratio of 18 percent.

The company invested over P94 million for the 1.46 MW solar array project which can reduce its emissions by as much as 1,400 tons of carbon dioxide per year, equivalent to 2.9 million trees planted over 20 years.

“For TMP, I am confident to say that Plant Carbon Neutrality by 2035 is possible. We have 13 years left before our deadline and we are working continuously to achieve 100 percent RE by also exploring offsite power sources,” said Atsuhiro Okamoto, TMP president.

Meanwhile, Aboitiz Group, in partnership with GET Philippines, launched new routes of GET Cebu, a fleet of low-emission, air-conditioned and pollution-free COMET Buses developed by EV manufacturer GET Philippines.

The partnership will now serve routes including the Cebu North Route from SM City Consolacion to Cebu IT Park; Cebu South Route from Minglanilla to Cebu IT Park; Cebu Mactan Route from Gaisano Grand Mall to Cebu IT Park with a pick-up and drop-off point at The Outlets at Pubelo Verde in MEZ2 Estate; and the Cebu City Route from Shopwise Mambaling to Cebu IT Park.
