The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed over 1,300 road projects in Central Luzon in 2021 while over 500 projects are ongoing.
Roseller Tolentino, DPWH Region 3 director, said in a statement yesterday Central Luzon with 14 District Engineering Offices has completed and rehabilitated 98.68 kilometers of road amounting to P2.68 billion and 22.3 kilometers (km) of asphalt overlay project amounting to P244 million, as well as rehabilitated 20 bridges costing P428 million.
Also completed in 2021 were 19,507 lineal meters of drainage, 43,985 square meters (sq.m.)of road with slips slope and 41,469 sq.m. of road slope protection structure.
“We are fast-tracking the completion of 297 ongoing projects under the 2021 General Appropriations Act and start the 222 remaining projects to improve mobility and provide better access to services to the people,” said Tolentino.
DPWH also implemented projects of non-infrastructure agencies such as 55.11 km. of farm to market roads in convergence with the Department of Agriculture; 70 school buildings funded by the Department of Education under the Basic Educational Facilities Fund; 12 infrastructure facilities under the Tatag ng Imprastraktura para sa Kapayapaan at Seguridad Program with the Department of National Defense; public markets funded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government; and 12 COVID-19 temporary treatment and monitoring facilities.
DPWH recently said the opening of the Binondo-Intramuros Bridge this coming Holy Week will have an immediate impact of easing traffic, as many people begin working on-site with Metro Manila’s shift to Alert Level 1.
The bridge project is expected to benefit about 30,000 vehicles daily passing between the two busy districts of Intramuros and Binondo in Manila, DPWH added.
