Power generation firm Vivant Energy Corp. has formally signed with the Bantayan Electric Cooperative a 15 megawatts (MW) power supply agreement to address the need for a stable and reliable energy source in the island destination in Cebu for 15 years.

Under the agreement, Isla Norte Energy Corp., which is a consortium of Vivant Energy, Vivant Integrated Diesel Corp. and Gigawatt Power Inc., will install a 23.31 MW diesel-fired power plant in the town of Bantayan.

“We welcome this opportunity to contribute to the continued growth of Bantayan. Having a stable and reliable supply of energy is vital to the economic and social development of the community and we’re honored to be the one given this responsibility. We want to do good here because this is in our home, Cebu,” Emil Andre Garcia, Vivant Energy chief operating officer, said in a statement.

The diesel fired power project will comprise two 7.5 MW bunker-fired units and three 2.8 MW bunker-fired units to service the municipalities of Bantayan, Santa Fe and Madridejos in the island.
