Market leader Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. (TMP) said the eruption of Taal Volcano will dampen company’s first quarter performance.
Alfred Ty, TMP chairman, said in a sideline interview of a company event in Taguig on Monday, sales production had to stop for two days at the assembly plant in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
Ty said all eight dealerships in Calabarzon also had been affected.
Facilities had to be cleaned from ashfall and each car had to be maintained and inspected, causing delay in delivery.
“We make sure we deliver quality vehicles,” said Ty.
But Ty is confident sales will not decline this quarter as the company catches up on production and delivery of orders.
TMP is the country’s largest vehicle assembler. Cornering 43.79 percent of total sales in 2019, TMP sold 162,011 units, up 6 percent from 153,004 unit in 2018. This growth is faster than the industry’s 3.5 percent growth.
