The Department of Energy (DOE) successfully bid out the first 2,000 megawatts (MW) of capacity under the Philippine Green Energy Auction Program (GEAP).

Solar Philippines secured most of the capacity that will be enjoying preferential rates at about 70 percent or 1,380 MW of the 1,966.93 MW auctioned off.

Under GEAP, RE producers compete for incentivized fixed power rates by offering their lowest price for a certain capacity. The DOE is yet to make public the winning rates applied by the bidders.

Six projects of Solar Philippines secured spots in the GEAP: the 30 MW Calatagan wind power project; the 200 MW Concepcion Tarlac 2 solar project; the 280 MW Santa Rosa Nueva Ecija 2 solar project; the 450 MW Tayabas solar project; the 300 MW Kananga-Ormoc solar project and; the 120 MW General Santos solar rooftop project.

In a notice of award for the first round of GEAP, DOE said 1,511.18 MW are 11 projects in Luzon composed of 1,070.38 MW from solar, 360.80 MW from wind and 80 MW from hydro.

For Visayas, 313.20 MW from two projects were applied for GEAP: the 300 MW Kananga-Ormoc solar project of Solar Philippines Visayas Corp. and the 13.20 MW Nabas 2 wind project of Petrowind Energy Inc.

For Mindanao, six projects with an overall capacity of 142.55 MW are assured of the GEAP incentive with 19.15 MW from hydro , 3.4 MW from a biomass project and another 120 MW from a solar project.
