San Miguel Corp. (SMC) yesterday reopened the South Luzon expressway (SLEx) Alabang Southbound entry ahead of schedule as part of initiatives to fasttrack the completion of the Skyway extension project.
The toll plaza entry was closed to enable SLEx contractors to undertake bored piling works for the resumed construction of the Skyway extension project.
To hasten completion of the bored piling works while maintaining quality, SMC through its contractor EEI Corp. used two rigs instead of just one. Workers who returned to work also had more leeway to move on the construction site since Metro Manila was still in quarantine.
“We want to assure the motoring public and government that the Skyway extension project will be finished at the soonest possible time. This is to demonstrate our commitment to continue to improve our facilities and services — no matter what the situation or circumstance is,” Ramon Ang, SMC president and chief operating officer, said.
The original project completion was set on December 2020, but the two months work suspension due to the enhanced community quarantine will likely push back the project completion.
The P10-billion project will extend Skyway from Susana Heights in SLEx to Sucat and back, and will provide a direct access to the elevated section of the Skyway that will help ease traffic to and from the south.
The project will also increase the number of lanes on both directions to five northbound and four southbound.
