Revised Cavitex extension to Sangley to cost P30B

Cavite Infrastructure Corp. (CIC), a unit of Metro Pacific Investment Corp. , plans to start the construction by early 2021 of a P30-billion expressway linking the Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) to Sangley Airport in Cavite.

The proposed 22-kilometer expressway, which includes a five-kilometer spur road, is an alternative of the Segment 5 extension project under CIC’s 30-year concession of Cavitex.

The expressway will be passing through Kawit to Novaleta towns, then to Sangley and from Sangley to Tanza, Cavite.

CIC and Cavitex operator Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) are expected to finalize the project terms this month.

Bobby Bontia, CIC president, said a special board meeting will be held on September 11 for the possible issuance of a resolution approving the project terms. The parties will then submit the proposed alignment of Segment 5 to the Toll Regulatory Board afterwhich a detailed engineering design on the expressway will be drafted.

The first phase of the project involves the construction of a spur road going to Sangley Airport slated to be completed by second quarter of 2022 .

CIC has firmed up its plan to pursue the construction of Cavitex extension given President Duterte’s directive to start the operation of Sangley Airport by November .

CIC’s proposed project cost of P30 billion excludes the expenses on the right-of-way.

The company is conducting the feasibility study and is in discussion with affected local government units for the environmental clearance certificate of the project.
