Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. (PSPC) and Shell Energy Philippines (SEPH) are expected to put up additional electric vehicle (EV) charging stations powered by renewable energy following the signing of a tripartite agreement with the Department of Energy (DOE).

The parties signed last January the agreement  which will initially produce a pilot study on EV chargers powered by clean energy. Other key components of the agreement are supply, installation, operation, maintenance, monitoring, energy efficiency, performance and savings, among others, on the EV charging stations.

In a statement, PSPC  said the data to be generated in the pilot project will serve as a benchmark in developing and in rolling out the Shell Recharge EV charging network in its existing and future retail stations. The data will also become the basis of its recommendations, if any, to the DOE.

The parties said the agreement supports the government’s implementation of the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act which aims to, among others, accelerate the development, commercialization and utilization of EVs in the country. The agreement is also in line with  the Philippine Energy Plan 2020-2040 which provides for the transition to clean energy fuels and technologies.

PSPC first launched a 100 percent RE-powered EV charging station in its service station in Mamplasan  South Luzon Expressway in Biñan, Laguna.

The facility is powered by energy from SEPH through a mix of solar and hydro capacities.
