San Miguel Infrastructure on March 11reopened the San Juan River Bridge, also known as the Pinaglabanan Bridge, after the closure last year to give way to construction of Skyway Stage 3 project.
The bridge, that connects Old Sta. Mesa Manila and N. Domingo in San Juan, was closed last September 15, following realignment of the Skyway Stage 3 project over the San Juan River.
According to Mark Villar, secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways, said the newly-replaced and improved 46.85-meter Pinaglabanan Bridge directly connects Old Sta. Mesa street in Manila and N. Domingo Street in San Juan and will serve about 8,000 to 10,000 motorists daily.
“Motorists can once again utilize San Juan Bridge which is now fully-restored, and is constructed with 1.5-meter sidewalk on both sides to cater to pedestrians crossing San Juan River,” said Villar.
Meanwhile, SMC’s Skyway Stage 3 project is set for completion this July and is expected to significantly decongest traffic on EDSA.
The elevated expressway project extends the Skyway system from Buendia in Makati City all the way to the North Luzon Expressway exit in Balintawak.
With a length of 17.93 kilometers, the project will reduce travel time between these two points from two hours to 20 minutes or less.
