Vehicle production in the Philippines slipped in the first half of the year, according to the Asean Automotive Federation (AAF).
Output of four-wheel vehicles declined 3 percent in the first six months of 2022 to 40,334 units from 41,527 units in the same period in 2021, the AAF report said.
Accounting for just two percent of Asean’s output, the Philippines lagged at fifth among the six countries that are into the assembly of four-wheel vehicles in the region.
Total Asean production rose 18 percent to 2 million from 1.74 million a year ago with Thailand accounting for 45 percent of total output at 911,087 units.
For two-wheel vehicles, AAF said Philippine output dropped 4 percent to 431,524 units from 450,524 units in 2021.
This is equivalent to a 26 percent share of total Asean output of 1.68 million.
Last year’s Asean output dropped 2 percent from 1.7 million in 2021.
Thailand also led motorcycle output with 934,455 units. – Irma Isip
