Freelancers in the Philippines get just half the pay of their global counterparts.
Findings of the Payoneer Global 2020 Freelancer Income Survey showed the average hourly rate of freelancers in the Philippines has gone up by a dollar this year to $10 from $9 in 2018.
This is, however, way below the $21 hourly rate globally.
Filipino freelancers track the global trend in both age and the platforms used to promote their services.
The Payoneer survey showed 70 percent of freelancers worldwide are millennials. In the Philippines, 67 percent of those doing freelance work are below the age of 35.
The survey observed a decline in the use of social media in advertising freelance jobs, turning instead to online job market places.
Globallly, 34 percent of freelancers promote their services via Facebook and in the Philippines, the proportion is 30 percent, lower than the 34 percent recorded in the 2018 survey.
About 16 percent Filipino freelancers use LinkedIn , down from 22 percent in 2018. Globally, the proportion of those using this platform is 28 percent.
The survey also noted that more freelancers are doing full-time freelance work, 70 percent anly 30 percent are doing supplemental or non-exclusive freelancing.
In the Philippines, male freelancers offer web graphic design while female freelances prefer to work on administrative jobs like virtual assistants.
Globally, web and graphic design tops all freelance jobs.
