Fast moving consumer goods manufacturer Procter & Gamble (P&G) has asked the help of the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL) to addressthe counterfeiting of their brands in online selling platforms.

This as the multinational company is set to unveil today its new diaper line in its manufacturing facility in Laguna.

P&G representatives in a meeting with officials of IPOPHL  early this year said complaints against counterfeit P&G products remain on the rise, predominantly across online selling platforms.

They said these sites post poor-quality and recycled products with P&G labels, mostly affecting their soap and shampoo products.

The executives  led by Shelley Duggan, senior vice president; Zaheera Hashin, director and assistant general counsel  and; Laure Catoire, Asia-Pacific brand protection manager, called on the implementation of more stringent and efficient measures to combat the problem.

Catoire proposed to  organize a meeting with the concerned local government units and authorities on a mutual ground on how they can purposely and proactively monitor the online space.

Jesus Antonio  Ros, director of the  Bureau of Trademarks said the fight against IP infringement in the digital space remains a significant challenge not only for the office, but more importantly for the brand owners incurring losses.

IPOPHL has ongoing efforts under the National Committee on Intellectual Property Rights and has established a takedown mechanism on online infringement.

Meanwhile, P&G is set to hold the ceremonial unveiling of its Pampers line at its facility in Cabuyao. Irma Isip
