NLEX Corp. is set to award by the second quarter this year the P6-billion civil works contract for the section two of the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) connector road project to meet the scheduled completion by 2021.
Seven contractors have submitted bids in the pre-qualification stage. The winning bidder will be announced by May, according to NLEX Corp..
“We are doing the procurement for section 2, we are bidding it in the couple of months, the intention is to be able to identify the contractor by May this year, so that around that time, we can issue the notice to proceed (for) the construction of the section 2, ” said J Luigi Bautista, NLEX president and general manager.
Bautista told reporters in a sideline interview at the opening of the NLEX Harbor link Malabon Exit last Friday, the entire 8-kilometer stretch of the NLEX-SLEX connector road project is about P14 billion.
The project is composed of two sections: The first section from is from Caloocan to Espana in Manila while section 2 goes all the way to PUP Sta. Mesa.
DM Consunji Inc. (DMCI) bagged the P8-billion civil works contract for the first section and set to start full blast construction by next month.
Meanwhile, the Department of Public Works and Highways said motorists to can have some relief from traffic with the opening of the NLEX Harbor Link Malabon Exit.
“About 30,000 motorists per day will stand to benefit from this new road once the entire
Harbor Link C3-R10 Section is fully completed, helping reduce travel time for the traffic-weary public, providing more turnaround trips for the trucking sector, and growing businesses for merchants and local communities,” said Public Works Secretary Mark Villar.
Once the entire C3-R10 section opens next month, travel time between NLEX and the Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela (CAMANAVA) area will be reduced from 60 minutes to 10 minutes.
