The Philippine Franchise Association (PFA) will continue to work with the national government in advocating for the interests of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and ensure the growth of the franchise sector.
PFA chairman Sherill Quintana in a statement said the group will give its inputs to the implementing rules and regulations on Executive Order (EO) 169, signed May 12 by President Duterte.
The EO provides among others for the registration of franchise agreements and the creation of a Franchise Registry for MSMEs, initiatives that strengthen the franchising industry.
“We support the spirit of EO 169 which is to protect the interest of MSME franchise buyers. The PFA has been ceaseless in our efforts to educate the public on wise franchise investment,” Quintana said.
For PFA president Chris Lim, transparency in a franchisor’s business dealings is also a major feature of the Fair Franchising Standards (FFS), which is PFA’s code of ethics.
The FFS serves as a guide to all PFA members, 70 percent of which are MSMEs, in how they conduct the sale of their business.
The franchise sector provides businesses opportunities and jobs for over two millions of Filipinos.
The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry also expressed supports to EO 169 to strengthen the franchising and protect MSMEs from unscrupulous or fly- by -night franchisors who take advantage of franchising’s popularity for their self gain.
