The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) is set to conduct a series of electrical maintenance at the country’s main gateway, Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminals 1 and 2, starting February 7.
This is part of the ongoing upgrade of NAIA’s electrical system that is expected to have minimal disruptions in some area but the management assures the riding public that critical systems used for passenger processing will remain operational, MIAA said.
The MIAA sees no significant impact of the scheduled works to flight operations.
The scheduled electrical maintenance activities will be at NAIA terminals 1 and 2, International Cargo Terminal, MIAA Admin Building and the airfield, starting on February 6 until March 7, 2024.
MIAA said it has taken a proactive approach by meeting all stakeholders to inform them about the maintenance schedules. A prior meeting with MIAA’s service provider and Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) led to a unified strategy to ensure uninterrupted flight and passenger movement during the subject period.
Last November, MIAA completed the electrical maintenance and upgrading operation at the NAIA Terminal 3 without flight delays or cancellations.
The maintenance involved the necessary upgrade of main unit cables connecting the Meralco and the MIAA main substations.
The procedure also included the crucial task of replacing vacuum circuit breakers and protection relays at the main substation, which are integral elements of NAIA Terminal 3’s comprehensive electrical infrastructure, MIAA said.
