Civil works for the Light Rail Transit line 1 (LRT-1) extension to Cavite are now 98 percent complete, making the rail line on track to start operating an additional five stations before the year ends.
Based on Department of Transportation (DOTr) data presented by assistant secretary Jorjette Aquino at the Kapihan sa Bagong Pilipinas, the overall completion rate of the LRT-1 extension’s Package 1 stood at 98.20 percent as of April.
The completion rate per station is at 97.4 percent for the Redemptorist and MIA stations, 97.7 percent for Dr. Santos Station, 93.5 percent for Ninoy Aquino Station and 90.4 percent for the Asia World Station.
Aquino said the DOTr is targeting to operate Package 1, a segment with an additional 6 kilometers of railway system, within 2024.
Last April, the DOTr said 19 of the 4th generation four-car train sets have started operating.
“All 30 4th generation train sets operational on the services by the first quarter of 2025,” the DOTr said.
Meanwhile, the 33-km Metro Manila Subway is now 13.8 percent complete.
The DOTr said two tunnel boring machines (TBM) are expected to be delivered within the second semester of 2024, while two TBMs are anticipated to complete tunneling works by the fourth quarter of the year.
The subway, consisting of 17 stations, will traverse from Caloocan to Bicutan in Parañaque, while its spur line from Taguig will connect to Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay.
In addition, the Metro Rail Transit line 7 (MRT-7) is set to start partial operations by the fourth quarter of 2025 with the completion of 12 stations.
As of May, the 22-km rail line’s overall progress rate is at 69.9 percent. The MRT-7 has 14 stations that will connect Quezon City and San Jose del Monte in Bulacan.
