LRMC speeds up construction of LRT-1 extension

Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) is optimistic of meeting the government’s target of starting the partial operation of Light Rail Transit line 1 (LRT-1) extension to Cavite by next year.

Construction of the project started in the third quarter of last year and is now 33 percent was complete. Ongoing construction covers the alignment on Dr. Santos avenue,  Ninoy Aquino avenue  and Paranaque River.

Juan Alfonso, LRMC president and chief executive officer, told reporters they will meet the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to set the timeline for the partial operation by the fourth quarter of 2021.

“The DOTr is pushing us to finish as early as possible, We can do it, based on the timelines,” Alfonso said at the launch of Love Trains in LRT-1 Baclaran station yesterday.
Completion including the rest of the line to Niog, Bacoor is set in 2022.
