Light Rail Manila Corp. (LRMC) said it has started the construction works of Light Rail Transit line 1 (LRT1) Cavite extension project on the portion traversing parallel to Manila Cavite Expressway (Cavitex), in line with the target to partial operation by end 2021

Construction progress of the LRT-1 Cavite extension has reached 36.8 percent completion since the start of its civil works last September.

The pre-cast yard and staging area have been completed, with pillars built on the stretch of Dr. Santos Station until MIA Station.

With the construction works in full swing, the innermost lane (northbound) on Cavitex-Paranaque bridge will be closed from March 17 to 31 to give way to the scheduled test pit works (bridge and pipe inspection).

The 11.7-kilometer project is expected to service and benefit 800,000 passengers daily by cuttingdown travel time between Baclaran and Bacoor from 1 hour and 10 minutes to just about 25 minutes.

The LRT 1 extension to Cavite partial operability is targeted to start in the fourth quarter of 2021, with first five stations include Redemptorist, MIA, Asiaworld, Ninoy Aquino, and Dr. Santos while the rest of the line to Niog, Bacoor will be operational in 2022.
