Life will be better this year, many Filipinos believe

Life will be better in 2024, nearly half of Filipinos surveyed say.

The national Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey  was conducted among 1,200 adult Filipinos in December 8 to 11 last year the results of which were released yesterday.

The quality of life will improve this year, 44 percent of 1,200 adult Filipinos surveyed say.

The pessimist 5 percent say it will worsen in the next 12 months. The remaining 7 percent were silent.

The result optimism, classified by SWS as “very high”, was slightly down from the “excellent” plus-42 in September 2023.

The December 2023 survey found a third of Filipinos surveyed saying their quality of life was better than a year before. A fourth say it got worse while 45 percent say it was the same compared to a year ago.

The December 2023 survey also found Net Personal Optimism was at excellent levels among adults who belong to families and who consider themselves not poor, compared to the very high among those who consider themselves poor.

The grade “Excellent” is applied to Net Personal Optimism scores at +40 or more; “Very High” to scores between +30 and +39; “High” to scores between +20 and +29.

Compared to September 2023, Net Personal Optimism stayed excellent in Luzon outside of Metro Manila, although down by 10 points.

It fell from very high to high in the Visayas, down by 3 points. It stayed at an excellent +43 in Mindanao. It rose from very high to excellent in Metro Manila.

Compared to September 2023, Net Personal Optimism fell from excellent to very high among those who either graduated from college or took post-graduate studies.

Optimism stayed excellent among those who finished junior high school, had some vocational schooling, had some senior high school, finished senior high school, completed vocational school, or attended college.

It stayed very high among those who either finished elementary or had some high school education. It fell from very high to high among those who either had no formal education or some elementary education.
